I was only expecting the worst and I really just knew that disaster at any point could happen. The night before the marathon I had a fever and my chronic knee pain was more noticeable. Thankfully many prayers were sent up and I was able to finish and put behind me the state of New Jersey. As I write this I have tears in my eyes, because I know that sometimes I take for granted those that care and reach out to me in my many times of need. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Miles 1-5

I thought I would stay with the 4:40 pace group, but about half a mile in I left them to listen to my body and its own pace. I wanted to stay focused, but I can't say that I was in love with this course, I really love running in rural areas like my last marathon in Pennsylvania. This race because it was said to be flat I was 98% focused on keeping my pace, and nothing else.


Miles 5-10

I bumped into this pace group and ran with them for a little while, but passed them at the water stop. When I look back at my other marathons I recall mile 17 being the time I hit the wall, then the next marathon, it was mile 20 and so forth. This marathon I hit the wall at mile 21, the pain was real, but I knew it was nothing a little bit of Korn or Disturbed could not handle. So I just cranked up my music a little louder and give it my best. The last miles hurt, but I am hoping one day the pain will make me a stronger runner.

Miles 10-26.2

I stayed a little ahead of this group, but they eventually passed me a mile left in the race. I was talking to a friend today who did not believe at first that I ran the marathon in 4:10. Then after explaining to him that I had to stop at the porta john 4 times my last marathon, and that this course was flat and not hilly, he seemed more willing to believe me. My Garmin clocked 4:06 and I wanted to know if it was common among runners to get a different time on their Garmin for a marathon than at the actual finish line time.

  2. I love this goal! And congrats on such a strong finish-after what must've been a scary night before! 50 marathons in 50 states is awesome and it's great that you're writing about each one...will make for very cool memories.

  4. Don't be envious it can be painful...not everyone's cup of tea.., but I love it and if you think its something you realy want nothing can stop you from achieving it.

  5. it was very scary....but the worst would have been a 6 or so finish time and I was ready to accept that... I love that quote to be successful you have to not be afraid of failure...so if that means I fail over and over again that's ok...the key is to keep picking yourself back up again and trying over and over again until you get to where you want to be.

  6. nice that you mentioned this...it would be a big challenge running around a 9:00...30 second less than my average pace...I have so much work to do...time to train train train!
